Default Hardware Order on Radiator Support Rods

I have a question on the order of the radiator support rod hardware (hollow 29 rod) at the firewall end.

Do I have this right -

Only the head of the rod slips into the bracket atttached at the firewall.

In front of this bracket first goes a cup washer, then a lock washer, and then the nut. Is this correct?

Also a picture would be great as the original cup washers that I have are similiar in construction to lock washers. Is this right?

Thanks - Hunter

Your order is correct, but I don't think I have a picture.

You would be better off using "O" rings the fatter the better at all joints on the rods, takes up a lot of the vibrations transfering to the rad and shell of the body flexing. ken ct

The first type was probably used through mid-1928. The second is correct for late '28 through 1931.

You gentleman will be impressed when you see Hunters car. He really uses all this information and I have seen his car and it is a beauty. He does the work himself, is very detailed in his approach.

Why is it I have 12 rods and only one with the correct washer?

Who is going to take that much time to remove that washer on so many rods? It looks like a part that should just be moved out of the way and put back on so why go through the trouble?

I believe Kevin was asking a rhetorical question concerning the previous owners of his 12 rods going to the trouble of removing the correct cupped washers, when all they have to do is loosen the nut to R & R the rods.

Here is a picture of the rod on my 9-27-28 Phaeton.

Tom is correct. Just minor frustration of finding another small part.

In my case it is not about show as it is function. It appears to be a minor part that would be good to have in place to hold it all together properly.

Hunter is correct in trying to get the correct stuff on these rods not only for show but for their function. Know nothing me just put mine on with only a lock washer. Well they came off on a drive. So best to do it the way Henry did it,
