292-3 speed chattering on my 55.
So, recently I changed the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bushing, had the flywheel surfaced because it was chattering. It seems a little better, but I still have a slight shudder when I first let the clutch out.
I am leaning towards a bad motor mount, but I don't know. Would the clutch linkage adjustment possibly allow this? Thanks

Root - make sure you have around 1.25 - 1.50 in. of freeplay .

bad motor mount or bad trans. mount can cause this. even if you have changed the clutch, if it gets oil on it from an eng, or trans front retainer seal leak , it could cause it to chatter. when looking at your mounts if they are oil soaked, and not broken they can still cause the clutch to chatter, as they will "stretch" more than normal when the power is applied.

I am leaning towards the mounts. The tranny mount is new. The sound seems to be coming from the rh side. Imagine exhaust hitting something. Makes me suspect of that mount.
I'll check the freeplay. When I bought the car it had the clutch adjusted all the way to the top. Made it really hard to drive comfortably.

Then you can cross that of your suspect list . Most likely the mounts , or some oil/grease got on the clutch disc . |

Any chance you installed a 10 spline 1 1/16" clutch disk on a 10 spline 1" tranny input spline? Ted Eaton.
