Default 41 front spring cover

I was looking more closely at my front spring and found out that the spring cover is metal. I was expecting cloth or no cover. Did 41 springs come like this from the factory?

Tex, '41 thru '48 Super DeLuxe cars came with cloth wrapped springs covered by a metal cover. Some car's in mid summer of '46 were shipped without covers due to high sales and a shortage of covers. It kept the spring lubricant in and dirt out.
