Default 28 CCPU rearmost body bolts

Anyone have any info and pics on where MAYBE the last 2 body bolts go thru the subframe/chassis?

What maybe should be there does not line up with original existing chassis holes.

Are you trying to put a AA cab on a passenger car frame?

I can tell you I had to drill two holes to mount my 29 cab to the frame that came with the truck. The previous owner had body work done and they put it together with 9 bolts for the cab and the bed. The frame was not the original, and I had to drill holes to bolt it on properly. If you have to drill holes, make sure you leave enough space between the bed and cab. Mine was so close I had to add small pieces of wood to stop the rattle. I know this was done in the day by dealers, but if you have the chance to do it better, now is the time

I just looked at my 29 CCPU patently waiting to be restored and I don't see how the rear most cab bolts to the frame. I have a body block set of the pickup, but there is no holes in the frame close to where there appears to be a hole in the cab for the rear body bolt. There is a hole in the frame about 7" forward of where the hole in the cab is. Also, the hole that looks like where a body bolt should go in the cab is inside the frame. There is no way the cab hole would line up with a hole drilled in the frame. I would like to see a picture of the rear body bolt installed in CCPU. I pasted in a picture of the rear cab body block I got with the CCPU kit.

Brent,..question.
You're saying that the cabs are different, in the mounting, between the
A and the AA?

Rusty,
That "looks like" the pattern of the sub frame, for my cab, hanging on the wall
here at work

I found a picture of a rear cab body bolt on my computer I took a couple of years ago at a swap meet. The cab was very rough, but the bolt head shows in the picture. There are two bolt holes next to each other and the bolt can be seen in the inner most hole. The problem is the frame is not under the hole in the cab. I can't see how the cab bolts to the frame since they don't line up.

That is what we have found. We have an July '28 AA that has original sub-rails. When we tried to mount it to our jig, the bolt holes did not align there. When comparing the passenger car frame to the AA frame, the holes are definitely in a different location.

Across the very back of the body is an angle plate , there is a hole drilled in this on each side.

I have drilled a hole thru the chassis at this point because it seemed the strongest place to rest the body rear on with wood block under.

I was just curious if this was correct as I am building a new chassis at the moment and wondered if I did it wrong in the first instance.

There is a hole in the chassis just behind the rearmost running board bracket which is past the rear of the body and the another hole in front of the running board bracket directly under a subframe section that has no hole thru and is curved over at front and does not look like it should have any bolt there anyway,

So it seems to be the only place is to drill a new hole in chassis about 60mm or about 2 1/4inches in front of that one rear of the running board bracket.

Am I on the right track?

As far as I know all of the 82-A cabs are the same, that means A or AA, no difference. There are 2 bolt holes on each side at the rear of the cab, the 2 outside holes are for the A, the 2 inside holes are for the AA. I don't have an AA frame to measure, but I think if you measure the distance between those holes you will find they match the distance between the two innermost holes in the cab. The distance on the outer holes should match the distance on a regular A frame.

If you look in Les Andrews book you will see that the only listing to use the #6 holes is the 82-A cab. Brent, could this be why your jig is missing those holes?

Dan,

I agree. I looked up all the sub frame parts, sills, in the Ford Body Parts List.
There are some parts in the body that are unique too the AA,...but not in the
sills.

I just took a picture of the underside of my pickup cab where the two body mounting bolts should go. I am confused in that it does appear that the outer holes would line up with the frame like Dan stated above, but there are no holes on either side of my frame for the rear cab bolts (see picture). Are passenger car and CCPU frames different? I am not sure the frame was the original frame with the pickup. Maybe a standard frame had to have the holes drilled for the rear body bolts if a pickup cab was installed on the frame. Could this be possible?

I gave a quick look at the frame info on Plucks website, click on the "Frames" icon - www.plucks329s.org but didn't see that specific info, I'll look again later.

My frame has the '30 style crossmember with the lowered radiator mounts.

I just measured the two holes closest to where the rear cab bolts should be on my CCPU frame (no holes on my frame for the rear cab bolts). From the center rivet of the back runningboard bracket, it is 4 1/4" to the hole toward the front of the vehicle. I believe this hole is used on coupes, roadster and several other cars for a body block (it is used on my coupe). It is 4 3/4" to the hole toward the back. The hole toward the back is used to fasten the front of the bed to the frame. This hole is not used on my 28 coupe. I don't think this hole is used for anything on a passenger car according to Les Andrews Mechanics Handbook. Les' book does show a hole where the rear body bolt should go on a pickup cab, but there are no holes on any of my 3 frames in this spot (hole #6). I checked the frame on my 28 coupe and 29 phaeton, and the only holes near the rear runningboard bracket are exactly the same as on my CCPU frame. I am more convinced that Ford drilled new holes for the rear cab body bolts before or when the cab was mounted. I think maybe my CCPU frame was originally on a passenger car.

DJ, We're looking at hole #6, 28-29.

I just checked my 29 Tudor (assembled from parts) frame and there are no #6 holes.

Maybe they only added #6 hole when an 82-A was coming down the line.

I am thinking Dan is right. Hole #6 was only drilled for CCPU's. Hopefully, some other people can post information about hole #6 on their car.

Here are some more clues from one of Pluck's documents - http://www.plucks329s.org/pdf/frame/...20assembly.pdf

APRIL 20, 1928: (FRAME SIDE MEMBER, RIGHT, A-5015-B AND LEFT, A-5016-B):
•Added one 1/2 inch diameter hole and 6-9/32 inches dimension locating same in upper face at rear to be drilled in place for Closed Cab.
•Also added one 1/2 inch diameter hole in upper face at rear located by changing — 20-25/32 inches dimension to 8-31/32 inches and 11-13/16 inches dimensions (REL. #9346)

APRIL 20, 1928: (THIS NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED ON...DO NOT UNDERSTAND! SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFO) (FRAME ASSEMBLY, A-5005-B):
•Added two holes located by 16-3/4". 33-1/2" and 6-1/4" inch dimensions to be drilled in place for Closed Cab only.
•Added two holes located by 17", 34" and 8-15/16" inch dimensions for pickup only (REL. #8346)

"Drilled in Place" may be the best clues about those holes.

Thanks Pluck!

So I maybe guessed right and drilled....

Rear bolt inside going thru strengthening cross section across cab rear.

New bolt under (ignore long being packed) in red ...the yellow holes are original .

New hole drilled in red.
