Talking Berts weekend special tool box for 1928/29

Berts has a whacky weekend special on contoured toolboxes for 28/29 Model A. I have been looking for one for some time. The price is $ 120 ( 15-$18 shipping ) instead of $ 165 dollars. Has anyone purchased one and if so how is the quality.
Thanks Al

If Vermin had a front tool box, I'd just put a sign on it, "HERE'S ALL MY TOOLS, JUST TAKE THE BOX TOO, ONLY HELD ON BY 3 EASY SCREWS"!! Bill W.

Bill, I guess that is why the mounting hardware is included. I was looking for a place to store a quart of oil, can of SeaBreeze, crank and a few odds and ends. I appreciate your subtile advice.
Thanks Al

How would you hand crank your "A" with a tool box up front?? It has been a while since I hand cranked one of my "A's", but I always like the option when needed.

I have one and it looks great, you cannot use the crank with it mounted. The mounting is solid, the unit is well built, heavy gauge metal, powder coated.
I have no idea why that person said it is poorly mounted, but I would doubt he has even seen one. I can, and have stood on mine, and I'm not small.
I have one, and may get another for my other car. I think this is a fine, well made product, looks great.
I can send you photos of mine if you private mail me your e-mail.

Bill,

Rather than a sign, wouldn't someone's agressive barking Model A canine companion temporarily tied to the front bumper, (while one enters a restaurant/store), make some think twice while looking at an owner's Model A tools & tool box?

Or if somebody like Buster T would start talking to them in English, I'm sure it would make a difference.

ctvpa, I saw that at mike's advertisment, It also states that it's aero-dynamic, and

will assist in cooling the Model A, anything to that you know of.

I have a front toolbox on my 30 Tudor. I just replaced the engine. A few years ago I purchased a tool fabricated from a socket that had a part of it cut away and it was welded to a handle that had two offsets in it. I think that I got it from AC&R. Maybe Berts has these now. Hard to time the engine without it.

Notice the shape of the front. It is not flat but rounded to better deflect the air.
There is another front box that looks like a tool box that also goes on the front. I think this is the one that was referred to when easy removal was mentioned.

It is aero-dynamic, rather than the square box ones you see advertised. It gives a great look to the car, and I get complimented by many who see it. I have no evidence that it affects cooling, but it's shape does direct more air to the radiator. The photo Mike has of in on a speedster does not give it justice. On a car, it blends in with the 'flow of the car'.

Bill, I enjoy fun, however in this situation, a member was asking for advice on a product. With your answer that "It's held on by 3 little screws", the person who posted the origional may take this comment, to mean that you have experence with the product, and believe that it is a poorly manufactured item with a flawed mounting system, when in fact it is a high quality item that works well, and is made to look well on the car, rather than welding a bracket on a Craftsman tool box and bolting it on the splash apron mounts (as I have seen done).
I'm not new either, I have had my car for almost 40 years, and it was a daily driver for 10 years, even in New England winters.

I'd rather stash everything under the back seat and retain the ability to crank start the car. Have had to do that before, glad the capability was there. Beats waiting for the auto club to show up.

I agree with you P.S. If one really needed to crank the Model A/AA over and there was something in the area to prevent that feat, it would be a real B*&%# to remove.

Under the seat, in the trunk or an outside trunk on the back is the place to store stuff.

Bill,

I think that Buster-T would advise that whether or not one wants a front bumper toolbox or not, just in case your engine is overheating, best to hurry up & get an aero-dynamic tool box while on sale to shove more air through the radiator.

Smart dog!

I liked the heavier weave, probably chicken feed came in A little dust at first, but the 'middlins' shook out with use.

The best parts hauling bag these days is the lineman.s bag the telephone company uses.
Much better than the 5 gallon plastic bucket.
