Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
There has to be one out there and I can't find it. When Model A front fenders were painted at the factory, they were dipped and hung. I'd like to see how they had them oriented when hanging. If anyone could provide a photo, link to a video, or whatever, I'd enjoy seeing it. Thanks!

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
They were hung off the back edge on the flange that mounts to the running board.
By 1931 they even made a larger hole to make mounting easier. I think it is Marco that posts the factory photo of the parts hanging on the dip line. |

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
What else is on that rack? Something is hanging between the sets of fenders (and I'm not referring to the radiator apron)...

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
The tank was full of water, and had a layer of paint floating on top. The conveyor moved very slowly forward and down, dipping the part slowly into the paint, then very slowly back up and out. The result was very good. Try it some time with a small part. I have done it, and it is amazing.

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
I was wondering the same thing about what is hanging from the rack? It looks like a whole lot of nuts and bolts hanging together.

Same with "A" fenders to varying degrees. Ford was great at controlling the run-off.

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
this is off-topic but when I see pics of the vast production facilities of this Company, let alone things we don't see like the engineering staff, the pattern-makers, etc., and all of this to produce a modest-price car with a layer of profit to both manufacturer and retailer, I just wonder how the economic structure of the country was so different back then as to facilitate it all.

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
interesting to note that the runs are the opposite direction from the direction the fenders are hung coming out of the drying ovens...

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
I have the files in tiff format at very high resolution. I use photoshop to crop the section I want. To keep the file size down so it will up load fast, and still look good (but not enlarge) I upload a jpeg (compressed file) with lower resolution...

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
I would have thought there would have been 2 types of 'Black Paint'. One for the glossy parts such as fenders etc, and another cheaper paint (finish) for say suspension parts. Why use a (I'm guessing) more expensive finish when a part is not on show. The parts book mentions 'Black Paint' S1, and 'Black Enameled' S3, which I presume is the fender finish. The grouped smaller parts on the conveyor rack in the picture are obviously what I would consider to be 'Black Paint', but if they have gone through the same dip as the fenders, then they must be 'Black Enameled'.
Were all 'Black' parts painted this way? How were the 'Black Painted' parts (if any) painted? Any thoughts folks?

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
The runs on the underside that go in the wrong direction could be brushed on factory repairs to blemished areas.

Re: Photograph wanted of how dipped fenders were hung
possible. the NOS 1928 fenders that I have have runs on the underside, that have pooled near the point the fender attaches to the running board. They have the same direction as the fenders marked shows.
