It was at the MARC National Meet in Merrillville back in 2009.

As an adopted son of Montana, this is appropriate to the state of mind that is the Treasure State!

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
Yep, waaay to rich for my blood but its for sale in my hometown!! My parents and in-laws still live there. I gotta tell ya, looking at those pictures makes me a bit homesick for Montana. You can see the Bridger Mountains in the background - which in my youth was my playground for skiing, hiking, and hunting. Would love to find a way back - and if it weren't 50K that would be a fun novelty to have. Maybe I'm wrong but it sure looks like the body is a cabriolet! Maybe it would be a sin to change anything or the patina, but one could restore the cabriolet body and put that on another chassis, then either restore what's left along with a coupe or Tudor body or find something of the same patina. Lots of options. If that was a business or sport coupe I'd probably leave it as is, but if it is actually a cabriolet there might be some value in restoring that for another chassis. (but not at a starting point of 50K in my mind) That's a lot of money to spend for a novelty / cool piece of history that is never going to be driven over 10mph unless those parts are destined and desperately needed for something else in which its still a lot of money.

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
I saw the car in Merrillville, thought it was kinda neat! Certainly unique!
The 'bid' of $50K is odd, as the seller says 'I will lower the first bid of $50,000 as I post more pictures and information.' That's no way to run an auction. Smacks of shill bidding!!! |

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
Even though I have started on my journey to collect one of each Model A, I find $50,000 dollars to be absolutely outrageous ! I agree with BlueSunoco, that is no way to run an auction ! If he gets 30 K I will be surprised. I know one thing, I won't be bidding !

With tires that large turning is not necessary...

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
Unbelievably, They've got one bid on it! It's a monstrosity! And a rusty one at that! 24" tires? I can recall trying to get them for my Allis Chalmers B. $50 grand? Not today!

The add says when he gets all pictures etc posted he will lower the price. Don't know why he didn't wait. But it is cool looking.

He must be real proud of that one. It would be fun but nowhere near worth the price.

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
My car is unsellable. Might have to make some new fenders and fit tractor wheels and keep it for fun.

Terry #16 - looking at the bidder history - seems in the last 30 days he/she has made 30+ bids on....Video Games & Consoles > Video Games.......
May be wrong - but would think not a serious bidder |

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
I've talked to Woodburn a few times and have friends in Nye and Billings Mt that know him,he plays fairly straight and does not have a reputation for being shady,if you want to talk shady that would be a guy named kroon there in the same neck of the woods,Bob has a lot of stuff but asks top dollar for it when he decides to sell something.

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
So this closed yesterday with 4 bidders and a winning bid of $61,100. So much for the analysis above.

The fact that it got any bids with such a high opening bid blew me away.

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
Go to the original listing, no sale, reserve not met. There is a little blue line just above the photo when you first open the link, click on it to see full ad.

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
I'm really amazed it went so high. I would like to assume that Model A'ers wouldn't do any shill bidding tactics but to me its strange that at 61K it didn't meet reserve. I'll admit with items as rare or unique as this though its a whole different market and clientele. You really can't predict that stuff sometimes. Its cool for sure though.

Re: Very interesting Model A on Ebay
[QUOTE=Joop;1020195]
Quote:
General Description Please DO NOT bid on this car yet. I just raised the first bid price to 20 times what I had planed to start it at to keep people from bidding until I can correct and complete my description of this car. I started working on this listing a couple of weeks ago and forgot it was scheduled to start this evening. Once I have corrected the several historical errors in this description, I will drop the first bid price to $4,995 and let the action run. I am out of town and will not likely be able to complete this description until some time on Sunday January 25 at the earliest. I am sorry for any confusion or frustration this might cause and appreciate your patience. Bob Woodburn Seems fair enough. Joe K
