Finish On Rear Bumper Ends
Have a question on the black paint that is applied to the 4 to 5 inches of the rear bumpers at the end where they attach to car. Should this area be smoothed out before I paint or was this area simply left rough so after it is painted it would have a rough finish to it?
Thanks - Hunter |

Re: Finish On Rear Bumper Ends
From what I have been told, that area of the rear bumpers were dipped in black paint as chrome plating was to difficult to obtain a proper finish around the riveted on plate, separating the two bumper bars. Many people do not even know that area is supposed to be black.

Re: Finish On Rear Bumper Ends
I believe the bars were chromed and THEN riveted with plain steel rivets to a plain steel plate. Of course the area was then dipped in black enamel. There would have been no additional preparation to smooth anything out. However it was all new materials so there would be no pitting from corrosion.
