Tire Cover Fit
I've noticed that some of the soft covers for the spare tire fit tight and some are wrinkled. Is there any product that fits better than others? Does the brand of tire have something to do with it? Thanks for your help.

Re: Tire Cover Fit
Repro covers aren't even close to the original spare tire cover, which as a wire ring to form the shape and a clasp to lock the wire tight, instead of elestic. The material pattern on an original is also different in being a diamond pattern.

Re: Tire Cover Fit
Usually, or on some that I have seen, there is a string or small diameter rope that you could pull tight to take the wrinkles out.

Re: Tire Cover Fit
The only thing the tire cover was doing for me was to make it harder to put in the fender well, and it held water really well. I took it off!

Thanks for the heads up on the water collection. I may have to rethink this. Maybe spending more for the stainless tire band would a better way to go. You guys are good at helping me spend more money!! Last edited by Brother A; 07-25-2011 at 11:54 AM. |

Re: Tire Cover Fit
Let the air out of the tire, put the cover on as tight as you can, and reinflate the tire.

Re: Tire Cover Fit
I replaced the rope on my 5th wheel with 8 gauge insulated copper wire in the backside channel. Draws down tight and the insulation keeps the copper from turning green.

I've always let some air out of the spare, soaked the tire cover "string" in water, then tied it tight and waited for it to dry before I "topped off" the air in the tire. |
