Default 59L, 2 hole timing cover bolts

Does the 2 hole timing cover require the special shouldered bolts for mounting it to the block ?

If I recall, the shouldered bolts are needed for mounting the distributor to get the correct alignment.

Thank you Fordbarners

yes, you need at least two shoulder bolts on the front 2 bolt cam gear cover for proper alignment

This happens to be the same bolt that Ford used on all the top loader trans shifter housings. Just grab some of those, clean them up and use them for the timing cover.

I dont understand the use of a sholder bolt as the crab housing is indexed to the cover with the housing????? Actually you could use any bolt and it would be perfectly centered????

Bubba,
I agree. I understand the principle, but there is more “slop” in the distributor drive tang and the camshaft than that of what would exist would those bolts.
