Metal mesh filter strainer instalation
So a few weeks ago I found an old metal strainer sock thing that goes in the top of the gas tank in my gastank I got it out was spittle difficult but got it out cuz it was so rusted out the bottom piped though the fill hole that seemed a bit small . Well today in PV antique I saw the same metal filter sock thing sitting there brand new so I bought it. I tried to put it in and realized it wouldn't fit in from the bottom. It looks like there is some sort of lock neck nut in the fill neck with grooves to be loosened or tightened with a screwdriver and a tap hammer I'm thinking nut comes out sock slides in then nut tightens up on it to lock it in place. Dose this sound right?

Re: Metal mesh filter strainer instalation
The early screens had a thread on the top, which is not removable from the commplete screen. The later screens had tabs on the top to locate them. I think the change was about Jan 1930, but would have to check the standards to be sure.
Yes, if they are rusted they can be very hard to remove. Lots of Kroil and the right tool is best. |
