interior door handle opener wont open or move h

car is 30 town sedan and every door is the same, i can open them from
outside only. the handles will not even move. i have the door off and
taken off the upolostry. tried vice grip to move latch but no luck.

this car has been stored fo 40 years, after having all upholstry redone.

been working all winter on other mechanicals / now this problem.
geeting a little discouraged.

Not trying to be a smart a-- but you do know the handle lifts up like a bottle opener, not twisted. People not familiar with A's always try to turn them.

My first thought was the same as Rich's. I've seen many handles broken at their mount because someone tried to pull, rather than lift.

Fredski, the rod from the inside handle to the lock assembly is a simple straight forward design. About the only thing that could cause this is that the end of the rod is NOT poked in the right spot in the main door latch assembly. Take a door panel off & inspect & doodle with it! (BE CURIOUS!) Bill W.

i have the panel off, the handles of course are off . i cant turn in any direction even with vice grips. i dont get it?? all doors seem stuck
and i do lift handle but did try both ways. only have one door
with panel off presently and on my work bench (drivers door).exteriers handles open door?

JUST CALL ME STUPID. just went out to garage they open when lifted up
not turned. just told my wife she said your loosing it, she knew the
hanldes should be lifted. took door apart for nothing good time to change ragged felt in window channels now.hope i can master that.

As mentioned above the handle DOES NOT turn, it just lifts up away from the door panel, and as Bill states the system is not complex, if it doesn't work lifting (not turning) pull the panel and have a look, it may just need a little penatrant and worked a little. By all means stop trying to turn it with the vise grips, you will surely break something.

When I first got my A a passenger broke an original handle by turning it, now the first thing I do when I take someone for a ride is give escape instructions.
