Default Question about posting photos of auto tags

Why do some people block out their tag numbers when they post a photo of their car? You are driving it all over the place in public view so why should you not show it in a photo? I don't understand the reasoning behind this.

I think it's just another way to avoid some bad internet guys from tracing your tag and finding out where you live so they can steal your car. After all, there are international car thievery rings out there.

I don't see how anyone other than law enforcement can trace a tag.

Don't be so sure. The information is available to Law Enforcement, as well as some non-governmental agencies. That's a whole lot of people that can go rogue.

I recently advertised a motorcycle for sale on the www. A prospective buyer emailed me asking for the engine and chassis number. The registration number was shown in the advertisement.....had he recently stolen an identical bike and was about to give it a new identity? Not an uncommon crime....

What does it mean, the reason you saved it? I don't see the significance. 3PLK311 ???
Even so, if it's registered legally now in your name, that information is available.

Tail lite out... Bingo!

Dean333,

You are from Illinois, so you can also run 'Year of Manufacture' plates on your old Ford. You must have current Antique Plates registered to the vehicle and the plates and registration in the vehicle.

You should also have a copy of the applicable Illinois Vehicle Code with the Antique Plates since some officers are not aware of the code.

If you are interested, send me a Private Message and I will send you the specific code. I have a copy in my car at my shop and will pick it up tomorrow.

Paranoia!
Sign of the times.

Honestly, if anyone even considered stealing my 'heap', they'd obviously be insane!! I never , ever , even remove the ignition keys, irrespective of where I park it.

Ha. Got it. Believe it or not, that is an optical illusion caused by the inadvertent use of the flash. Note the white dot of the flash in the lense.
