Re: Spring re-arching
Try a machine shop, or there must be a spring maker in LA.

Re: Spring re-arching
I just marked mine at 1" centres and put it in the press a bit at a time. Leave it out in the sun for a few hours first.

Stay 6 inches away on each side of the center hole.

Re: Spring re-arching
My question has been; How does the spring re-archer know how much to re-arch to make it as a factory unit would have been? Doing it at home, same question. Jack

Re: Spring re-arching
Specs. for the arch are available. When you take the spring off lay it on a big piece of paper or cardboard and make an outline of it. Then compare that to the spec. Keep bending it a little at a time until it comes into spec.

Re: Spring re-arching
I put my springs in the press and bend about every 1 inch. Do not bend on or close to the center hole.
Lay the spring on a flat surface like in the picture and bend the leaves until they all touch at the ends, and the spacing between the springs is uniform with more space at the lower springs like in the pictures. Put the center bolt in the spring and tighten it up and measure your spring to see if it needs more bending. I over arch my springs 1/2" to 3/4" in length to allow for settling after the spring is installed on the car. |

Re: Spring re-arching
Ried's has them in stock for 70 bucks. They share the building with C.W. Moss, which I won't hold against them. :-)

Re: Spring re-arching
If you do it at home with a press.
Draw the outline on floor or bench before you start, so you can see how you are progressing, and where you are aiming for. I did mine and it came out great. |

I know a lot won't agree with me but I reckon the old springs ride way better than the new ones. Not sure it's because the leaves weaken and wear thinner over the years or the steel in the new leaves are slightly thicker and have more tension. I have a model A street rod as well with an aftermarket spring and 4 bar ect and doesn't ride anwhere near as good as the mostly stock Sports coupe. |

Re: Spring re-arching
I seriously appreciate the specs that 30 Coupe posted, now does anyone have the same information for the rear spring? Jack
