Model A With Hydraulic Brakes
A buddy has a Model A that’s been converted to Hydraulic brakes using 46-48 drums, hubs and backing plates. Will 1940-41 hubs and drum work with 46-48 backing plates. He has heard that the drums will rub the backing plates. Drums have been turned past being safe and are thin.
Thanks in advance, Dave |

Re: Model A With Hydraulic Brakes
They will inter-change. Any V8 drum installed on a Model A will likely rub on the backing plate. Most people just use axle shims to remedy this. A little material can also be machined off the drums where they make contact with the backers. I have machined .100" off the ends of the axle housings, which works great but of course needs a complete differential disassembly to accomplish this. I've also used '35 drums because they have the necessary step in them to accommodate A wire wheels.
