Unstamped block
A friend of mine just purchased a 1931 CCPU that has no # on the engine block. I did a search here and didn't come up with much information.
Has anyone ever seen an unstamped block? Were they replacement blocks from the factory? Any input is appreciated.

Re: Unstamped block
look down by the upper bolt of the side timing gear cover and you might see a little diamond on the block that will be a replacement motor,

Re: Unstamped block
I know of a block that had the number shaved on a milling machine and then the surface "dressed" to look like a unnumbered but stock block. Maybe that't what your friends has. This was done because they swapped in another block where the number did not match the "VIN," and they thought this was easier than adding to the confusion of more than one engine number on the "A."

Re: Unstamped block
None of the "B" motors were stamped (1932-34) in case that is what he has. They can be identified by a fuel pump or block off plate in the lower right front of the engine.
