Default 1929 Roadster Almost done.

Enjoying my time in the shop this snowy winter. Almost done.
Working on the hood over the next month.
Having a tough time finding Stainless rear and front bumpers.
Snyders, Brattons, mikes. No one has any in stock and am being told won't be for awhile.

Very nice job. Did you do the body work and painting yourself?

Looking good! Do you have original bumpers that could be restored?

Are you a member of the Model A Owners of Canada?

Someone there might be able to help you find those bumpers. http://www.modelaowners.com

I do have the originals however the cost to refinish them was a lot more than new ones. I may just repaint the, for now until new ones are available.

Look at powder coating with near like chrome, you may not buy stainless bumpers.

While your work is to be admired, I'd love to acquire a car like you started with so I could fix it mechanically but drive it looking like it does in the "before" photo.

I think that you will find a good quality "Chrome" spray can paint will do just fine and look fairly decent - until such time as a suitable replacement becomes available. When I did my '30 Coupe with 'Chrome' spray paint, I was very pleased and it stayed on the car for years.

Maybe you could try this:

There was a thread on here a while ago that was about a dipping process that gave a chrome finish too. Any body got a link??

The front bumper that came on your car is a 1930-1, as shown above.

Here is the Rustoleum chrome paint, as used on the inside of the bumper horns, which don't take chrome well, on my 1950 Studebaker. The car was restored 23 years ago, and the insides of the bumper horns were getting rusty, so I sandblasted them and sprayed them with Rustoleum chrome paint a couple years ago.

BTW, your car looks fantastic.

Right, this is just to get bumpers on the car until he can find new ones.

A few years ago, I bought a SS front bumper and while shiny, the face was so rippled as if it were polished over mill scale that I put about 10 plus hours flat filing it smooth enough to hand over to a polisher to finish. I was very disappointed in the vendor's quality. It was either Snyders or Brattons' I complained, but not loud enough. I had used SS bumpers about 20 year earlier and the SS was nicely polished.

Fordm. Is the chassis under your roadster made ready to take a RHD steering column? I believe Canadian Model A chassis were made that way and I'm assuming yours is a Canadian car.

Just for information, I just had my front bumpers chromed by Edmonton Bumper repair. They did a good job for $700.00. There not show chrome but good for a driver/show car. They use Greyhound bus for shipping. If I remember that was $75.00 return. There turn around time is about 4 -6 weeks. Remember if your getting parts out of the US. these days the cost will be almost double or more by the time it gets here.

Hope this helps. John Poole
