Re: 1949,1950
Appearance wise, just the front turn/parking light. I have read that ford was making running changes in the 49-50 years, and even in the middle of the manufacture year of the 49 model. Supposedly, the only cosmetic change between the early and late 49s was a raised ridge between the bumper guards on the rear bumper. One other change between 49 and 50 was a change in the way the throwout bearing was pushed into the clutch fingers. If you post your question in the forum for that series of cars it will get a more definite answer.

Re: 1949,1950
Louie...........which one do you have? A couple more differences. 50 has rectangular front turn signal lenses, 49 round. 50 has fuel door, 49 has round neck sticking out of fender. 50 has Ford badge under hood trim piece, 49 has Ford spelled out. 50 has Ford badge above trunk handle, 49 ?. Probably some more but can't of them right now.

The 49 has the gas cap on the outside of the body and the 50 has the gas cap in the body behind a door in the rear side body panel.

Re: 1949,1950
On the '49 models, the trunk lid hinges are exposed on top of the lid, but they are nice chrome plated hinges. On the '50 & '51 models, they eliminated the exposed hinges and hid them under the lid.
There's probably a lot more subtle differences between the '50 & '51's than there is between the '49 & '50 models. Like the '51 having the chrome trim piece on the rear fender ending at the taillight housing and larger taillight housings than the '49/50 had. Also the '51 had a stylish steering wheel that was only offered that one year. |

Here are close-up pictures of the 1949 and 1950 Ford Parking Lights. Notice that the centre grille bar is a different length between both models? On the 1949 model, the centre bar extends to the outside edge of the grille. On the 1950 model, it stops on the inside of the grille. |

Re: 1949,1950
Here is what happens if you use the wrong year grille parts on your Shoebox Ford? On this 1949 Ford, you can see that the centre grille bar fitted from a 1950 Ford stops short on the inside of the outer grille bar, and leaves a gap until the take-up with the parking light. You can't use the wrong grille parts on these two similar but different models. |

Re: 1949,1950
This photo shows the different "depth" of the central spinners on the 1949 and 1950 Fords. the "deep" one is from a 1949 Ford, while the "shallow" one is from the 1950 Ford. Again, similar but different. |

Actually, both '49 and '50 had exposed hinges (different from each other but interchangeable). They were hidden on '51's. |

Re: 1949,1950
I believe that the 50's had push button door handles while the 49's had pull handles

Re: 1949,1950
The door latch mechanism is different on 49, one year only design. 50 had a much better design that lasted for many years. I have had bad luck with the 49 latches.
