Default Re: Modern Radials

The major difference between tube-type and tubeless tires is the compound that the inner layer of rubber, or liner, is made from. The tubeless liner prevents the migration of air through it and into the body plies. Without it, there will be air migration, and possible body ply separation. There are other differences, particularly the bead angle, but the liner is the key to tubeless. If the tire is tube-type, run a tube. If it is a radial tube-type, run radial tubes, period. They are designed to withstand the additional flexing of the tire, with the resultant additional heat. They are heavier gauge rubber, heavier splices and heavier stem bases.
