I have one with an Otwell and one with an Autolite waffle type. The Otwell is about
3/4 - 1 inch lower.

I have read the suggestion that drilling a heater hole in a pristine firewall is not a good idea. I am still agonising over that myself, and have a heater hole pencilled on the firewall that I haven't talked myself into drilling yet!
I've also read that the hot air could be taken down behind the engine and into the cab via a register in the floor. This idea interests me, but it's a pretty tight squeeze from the heater outlet to get air down there. Has anyone done this and would care to post some photos?
