Default Doing more trouble shooting.

I'm trying to figure out the thing that is making my 47 Ford (59AB) not run right. The previous owner set my car up a 12V battery running the starter, lights, and aftermarket gauges. That's it. The generator was disconnected by him. The exhaust was cut off by him right under the removable floor pan. My ignition I think is still a 6V system. A regular style ignition coil. I've had the distributor rebuilt. It was later tested by a great guy who's with the Early V8 Ford Club. My plug wires are new, and I am running Motorcraft AL7C / SP473 spark plugs. I have the two horned 46 - 48 distributor which was a pain to put together (would rather have the 42 crab style). I recently put on a different Holley 94 carb because mine was bad. Stripped screws and all. My vacuum with the replacement is now running at 17 and is also connected to the wipers again. With the replacement carb the car idles beautifully. My problem is when I drive it or if I floor the accelerator the engine wants to kill. I have to press the pedal lightly to drive it. When I got the car I could floor it and there was no problems, but it was running with bad 87 gas, the intake vacuum port was freely open, bad plugs and wires, and leaky carb. I am trying to see what I overlooked or am missing. I just wanna drive it to the storage spot before winter. Does anyone know what I should be looking for or what I should do?

Sounds like a bad accelerator pump in the carb.

To be in both carbs too? When I do drive it, after accelerating it will loose power or buck until I lay off the pedal and then I'm fine. I'm planning to get a new carb anyways. Who should I buy it from? I don't want to do rebuilt anymore.

Accelerator pump or power valve maybe. Low fuel pump psi. crack in pump to firewall flex line, or crud in lines. Bad condenser maybe. CharleyNY would eliminate the carb possibilities.

My fuel lines are all new and the tank was remanded. I replaced everything. Carpentier rebuilt the distributor and the condenser was replaced. It was tested as good on a Ford machine. The points weren't set right and I had club member set it and checked it on three different machines he had.

When it starts to die start pulling out on the choke. If it picks up you'll know it's a fuel problem.

I pulled the choke part way and I can floor the pedal and he roars. Just idles a little funny. So what do I do next? Is it a pump, or carb issue now?

Sounds like it may be as simple as a classic vacuum leak somewhere. Try checking hoses, carb hold-down bolts tight....simple stuff first. DD

Are you using the stock fuel pump? Was your replacement carb new or rebuilt?
Good advice here already, fuel pressure, accl. pump, power valve.
CharlieNY can sure help you with that carb if that is the problem.
It seems the problem started when you replaced the carb??? Don't start tweeking anything else yet. Is the old carh safe to run? Maybe just for a test you could put the old carb back on and see what happens?

No it wasn't. What is the correct ft/lbs of tightening?

I am using a stock fuel pump. The carb that was originally on the motor when I got it is junk. It has stripped threads and everything. The carb I have on it now is borrowed to see if there would be any improvement in running and there was.

Charlie is the man for 94 Carbs. It does sound like a problem with small jets in the Carb. Charlie may have the correct Carb (original) to your car. Suggest you give him a call. See the V8 Times for his number.
