Re: Ford Piquette Avenue - Model T Museum
It's really a great museum. It deserves all the publicity that it gets. A landmark site in the history of the automobile industry.

Compare this picture, taken in 2018 with the one above, and you will that hardly anything has changed. Fantastic Museum to check out. |

Another photo of the Old Ford Piquette Avenue Factory, now the Model T Museum, on the corner of Piquette Ave and Beaubien Blvd, Detroit. It is a very long building, as you can see in this photo. |

Henry Ford's Office preserved - Piquette Ave Building, Detroit. If you ever get the opportunity of visiting this early Ford Factory, you will not be disappointed. |

There seems to be a slight problem with the Video Link shown in Post 18. Try this one
It deals with the restoration of the floor beams in the Piquette Plant. A very interesting short video to watch. https://vimeo.com/523208789/eceea8389a |

Re: Ford Piquette Avenue - Model T Museum
Most Ford guys, especially Model T guys, have been to the Piquette plant. Every September, we have a Model T birthday party there, to celebrate where the Model T was designed and first built. My 1909 Model T rolled out of the Piquette plant in June 1909. I drive it from West of Pontiac Michigan, down Woodward Ave. (main street in Detroit) to the Piquette plant every September for the birthday party and then back home, about 60 miles round trip.

Re: Ford Piquette Avenue - Model T Museum
I own a beautiful 1909 Model T Ford that was built at the Piquette Plant in June of 1909. Every year we have a birthday party for the Model T, to celebrate where it was designed and first built. I've been driving mine there for the past few years now, but the first time i did the 60 mile round trip drive from my garage to the Piquette, was the first time my car had been back to the birth plant where she was born. It was a 106 yeer reunion and It was sort of a religious experience driving into the parking area along side of this historic building.

Re: Ford Piquette Avenue - Model T Museum
The Ford #2 plant at Piquette Avenue was quickly realized as too small for the rapidly growing company. It didn't even have a full foundry. It is perfect for a museum though and is the true origin of the model T as well as others like the model K, N, and S. I just hope it can be maintained for the long term use.
The Highland Park plant was too large to maintain as a museum and much of it has already been demolished but part of it is still there. The River Rouge plant is the real monster of them all. It was where most of the later Ford history was. From the first building of the patrol boats and through manufacturing of tractors and airplanes as well as millions of V8 cars & trucks, it had it all. Some of it is still there but a lot of it has been repurposed or reduced to history books. I'm just glad the Henry Ford had the foresight to build Greenfield Village in order to house the history of it all. |

Re: Ford Piquette Avenue - Model T Museum
I am a docent there when I have time (and not much lately due to being a Ford employee and student at Embry-Riddle), and like Gary I try to make it back every year for the Model T birthday party (last weekend in September, usually).
The amazing thing about the museum itself is that the owners did so little to it through the years, it's almost perfectly preserved as it is. Granted, the first floor doesn't fit that description, but work is under way to 'restore' it to 1904 standards. Seeing these pictures almost make me 'homesick', I haven't been there most of this year. Thank goodness September is right around the corner! v/r, jk

This is the best display, as the landmark building is so original. A step back in time for sure.

Re: Ford Piquette Avenue - Model T Museum
That is what I was told when I took the tour this June. That part of the building is be partially demolished and the rest turned into public housing. You can imagine how thrilled the museum might be.
