32 Rear Spreader
My rear spreader on my 32 is apperently homemade, which is fine,
My frame blueprint shows the mesurement form the outside of frame at the rear is 40", I welded new extensions on earlier and it appears the spreader is too short or is there something that goes between the spreader and the frame? Do I make sense? Also I am planning on running the car as a highboy while I finish gathering $$ and parts to make it a fendered car. Thanks again for the help.. Tom |

Re: 32 Rear Spreader
On 32 frames there is a 1/8th thick reinforcing plate the same shape as the end of the spreader bar that is tacked to the inside of the horns.

No, it's steel to steel.

Re: 32 Rear Spreader
Most reproduction/homemade rear spreader bars that I have seen/used are usually too short even with the reinforcements inside of the rear frame horns. I suggest that you treat the 40" dimension as correct and make the spreader bar flanges a slip fit to the reinforcements. Since you are planning to install fenders and frame horn covers at some time, consider welding nuts to the inside of the spreader bar flanges. Otherwise, it's always a challenge to install bolts through the tail light stand, the bumper bracket, the horn cover, the frame and the spreader bar and then try to start the nuts around the horn covers. Then it's almost impossible to get a wrench on the nuts!
