new block
I'm not sure if I'm set up in the right spot but I'm looking for a 49-53 8BA block that has no cracks, if such a thing exists, bored less then 30 over.

Re: new block
The holy grail...
Expect to pay $1200-$1500 for a proven crack free block. I did find a Canadian standard bore standard bearing block recently, still needs checked for cracks, don’t see any but it needs a trip to the machine shop for testing. Tod, we need blocks!

Re: new block
Seriously, there is a guy on here (handle is "Tod") who is working on casting new blocks. This guy is the real deal and has already successfully recast Model "A" blocks and cylinder heads, and (I think) a bunch of late model Ford stuff. Come to think of it, I haven't seen or heard from him for a while; I wonder where he's at? He has so much stuff going on he probably is sidetracked with one of his other projects. IIRC, the price for his block is projected to be in the mid $2000 range.
If you're in a hurry, I'd keep looking. AND, this is a good place to start. If I were you, I'd be placing a wanted ad in the ""Swap Meet" section. |

Re: new block
I'm wondering if such a thing exists. A few years ago, I bought a 'crack-free' 8BA block that had been magnafluxed and was ready for machining. The machine shop that I use insists on pressure testing everything, and sure enough this one had a crack inside the lifter valley, near the top, in a place no one would likely check. In fact, he had never seen one crack there, and he has done a LOT of flatheads. Anyway, the repair was simple enough for them, should last forever, and was well under $100, so one or two cracks is not something I'd sweat.
