Default Cabriolet triple hinge pin question - swedge or peene?

On the Cabriolet top there is a pin (attachment shown) to hold the #2 bow into the triple hinge. This pin goes into the hinge from inside the car.

It can slide or vibrate out and could fall out. According to an old drawing it says it needs to be swedged or peened? on the outside to hold it in place.

How do you do that? Hammer and punch? to make it flatten or widen a little on the outside so it does not pull out easy? Has anyone done this?

It seems like it needs to be done before putting the top on or it is not very accessible, but I am not sure..

Thanks for any advice.

Default Re: Cabriolet triple hinge pin question - swedging?

I make my own out of stainless. I use a post binder technique where the long pin has a drilling on the far end.
Then I make a small “cap” that drives into the drilled out. That cap is really tight and I use some locktite on it
It’s small stuff but I have a small lathe
I have before used a ball end mill and recessed the peening end. I have a tool in a press that then sedges the ball end.
The post binder method works and looks best imho
There ain’t much hand swedging around plated materials!!

Thanks for that idea. I don't have that type equipment and was thinking on the assembly line they must have put these pins in and done something quick and simple to hold them in.

Maybe not, but is this what a ball peen hammer is for?

I’m thinking on the line the whole assembly was together when it reached the assembler.
Probably one bad boy one strike machine that hit it with correct pound force
