Default Boyce Motometer repair

I have a midget model Boyce Motometer that the thermometer has come out. Anybody know what material can be used to re-cement the tube back into the body. Searches do not show what cement to use. I suppose I could try JB Weld but I don't know if it expands too much and might break the thermometer. The original cement looked like regular grout.

Do you think that silicone sealant would be a good substitute for the original stuff? Seems like the flexibility would offer some forgiveness when it comes to temperature extremes.

They probably used Sauereisen cement or something like that.

I thought about window putty, but I guess I never closely looked at mine.
