32 ford transmission
Ok experts since we last visited we examined my 32 ford motor to determine what was real 32 and what wasn't. We're to the tranny, here are pics of it and the numbers stamped at the top are: * 18-142988 * it was painted light gray looks like original paint , no green like other ones. As the saying goes " Is it live or memorex". G-man

Re: 32 ford transmission
I didn't realise the 32's had the brake light switch bolted to the trans. That's interesting.

Re: 32 ford transmission
The photo below is of the LHD and RHD versions of the '32 brake lamp switch. In both instances it is attached to gear shift lever housing. On some early RHD vehicles a different switch and mounting location were used. Both switches are unique to '32 models.
As for the gray paint on your transmission, I believe it to be original, although relatively rare. Too many examples of obviously-original gray-painted U.S. and Canadian '32 V-8 transmission cases and engine blocks have turned up to be ignored. A couple additional examples are shown below. Re: 32 ford transmission
Mine on my "B" was in the same place with the same fasteners (one bolt and on screw head). Don't lose it!

Re: 32 ford transmission
Apart from personal color choice, it somewhat depends on your plans for the car. If you are restoring it and plan to show it competitively, gray would be controversial in the minds of some judges. Armed with the Early Ford V-8 Club's The 1932 Ford Book, you could support your decision with either color.

Re: 32 ford transmission
"So should I paint it gray or green? " I think it was Jay Leno who said: you can restore it as many times as you want, but it's only original once.
