Default 1931 headlamp bar

Since I have had this 1931 Model A I have been looking for a better headlamp bar but do not know how to identify an original. Were they a stamped steel tube,fabricated or some sort of a casting? Were there different suppliers to Ford and different ways that they were made or later reproductions I need to stay away from.The very first one I did buy was modified over the years evidently for a different set of headlamps as my originals would not fit or adjust correctly to set level.Many on Ebay but some sellers do not even know what year of the 4.Thank You.

There are 3 basic versions of headlight bars for the Model "A:"

1. The 1928 & 1929 versions have sharp curved ends to fit the front fender curvature of these cars;
2. Early 1930 bars have are stamped steel with a channel cross-section;
3. The balance of 1930 & 1931 bars are a welded assembly of tubes.

The bar you seek is in the picture.

I don't think I've ever seen a reproduction bar.

You probably have. Most of the chrome plated dropped ones are repro.

From my experience, the stamped steel ones are mid-1930

You are correct again Brent, I was thinking of stock shape but if they
reproduce the dropped I assume it would be easy to reproduce a stock type.

Kinda looks like the one on Ebay that is from a seller in Pa.He does not know Model A years. I tried to move picture from Ebay to here or /and a link but was unsuccessful. It looks like the same curve but nothing in Ebay pictures shows construction.

on the 30-31 watch out for the angle where the head light mounts. they should be at a downward angle. they did make some early reproductions the are flat. like for mounting different head lights on. I have two of them, and one is painted.

I one saw one where the owner had the bar on backwards and the headlights could no be adjusted. The owner was thinking it had been modified and was going to heat it and try bending it. After changing it end for end all was well.
