wire wheels
hello- do model A wire wheels have any use other than for Model A's? I've got 7 or 8 that might go the scrap yard if no use

Re: wire wheels
Value depends on size, condition and location.

The Model A "AR" type wheels are probably the rarest in numbers and most difficult to find - but demand for these is limited because of the limited number of AR cars remaining. So value for these tend to follow the later 1928-29 wheels and probably for the same defect. Around here a good usable 1928-29 standard wheel runs about $25. Better quality a bit more perhaps. AR wheels perhaps $35 when you find them. 30-31 wheels perhaps $25 but only if they not all chipped up on the paint. Joe K

Re: wire wheels
Old rusty ones are gold at garden shops. They make good culvert screens Too! That is only a suggestion for damaged unusable wheels.

Re: wire wheels
They have an inherent value. You'll do better selling rather than junking them, in my opinion, and most probably be of help to someone who is involved with A's.

Re: wire wheels
They are also good buried in the ground as dead men to hold retaining walls. Cable around the retaining wall posts then back to the buried wheel.
They’ve been holding up ours since 1934. My Grandfather did it........, |

Re: wire wheels
Joe K, did not know that. I've got an extra set of NOS 28-29 wheels my Dad had in his garage. I had no idea they were of different construction.

Re: wire wheels
When they are rusted beyond use on a car, then they can be welded into a nice lawn chair.

Re: wire wheels
Weld them end to end and set your mailbox on top,cut one in half and wrap your garden hose around it.

Re: wire wheels
I think you should find 3 or 4 more just like it and put them on your car. They look kinda 'Fancy'.

Re: wire wheels
As stated above, a Model A wheel in any condition makes a great rack for an air hose, extension cord, etc. and it looks good doing it!
Any flea market, yard sale will give you $10 if they are that bad. scrap yard is a loser move...helps no one |
