Default Does anyone recognize this type generator?

I'm calling the experts to find out what vintage, or make of generator I have. It doesn't look like the ones I've seen in the judging standards or the Model A Generator book. My granddad was running it on my car and seems to work ok. Sorry for the bad pictures but I'm curious if anyone can tell me more about it. With the cooling holes and single output wire (rather than stud) I'm certain its later than Model A era, but is it an aftermarket replacement? Early Ford V8 or other? Is the casing Model A and the end plate changed since it has the right brackets? Thanks for any info.

-Aaron

It is definitely not a Model B generator. The Model B generator in 1932 was a carry over of the '31 generator except the diameter of the pulley was slightly smaller (you would have to measure to know it). The '33-'34 generator (part prefix 46) had cast front and rear end caps and the case was chamfered at the rear to match the chamfer on the end cap.

OK Charlie,

It looks like one of mine except that mine does not have the triangle in the back, just the casting where the felt goes, but it does have the holes. Somewhere I saw that style was a Model B so that is what I homed in on. Is it possible that this one is a aftermarket?

The commutator end cap shown in the first 2 pics. Looks just like a Delco-Remy from the 20's, 30's. The third brush lock down screw head is just visible to the left of the flip top bushing oiler. The holes would make it a heavy-duty truck type generator!?!? I have a 1935 Chevy truck Delco genny, a # 946C hooked up on my '31 "A" roadster. It has the ventilating holes too, but are more "squarish" and obviously molded in. The holes in this mystery genny to me look like they were drilled by somebody other then the OEM. It looks like any other Ford "A" generator except for the end cap. Me thinks that is exactly what it is.
A Ford "A" genny with a GM Delco end cap. Made by and why, who knows???????..........

The cast rear plate came in beginning 1933. The holes in the rear plate came in after early 1933 and continued through 1934. You guess about being aftermarket is probably correct. In any case it looks like a mix of parts.

The pulley isn't Model A either, it looks like it has a nut holding it on.

How long is it ?? There were several generators made for special use, police radio car, bus, and standrive --made for high output or charging at low speeds ---and the model A was a good market for the aftermarket, there were conversions of model T genertators for the A, so why not other ones too.
