1939 ford deluxe spring removal
I know leaf spring removal has been discussed in the forum but I haven’t seen a discussion on removing a leaf spring for the 1939 ford. Does anyone here have any experience in this? If so, how would you recommend safely removing the springs?
Thanks all! Jim |

You can use a porter power ,very safe and controllable ,there are various old school tools designed for the job also .

Re: 1939 ford deluxe spring removal
I just did this on a 40. I was very nervous after all I read but it was super simple. Take the spring apart and it takes about 10 minutes with clamps. Mark with a marker a line on the spring so it can go back together exactly the same. Clamp it all down with two large c clamps, undo bolt in center of spring, slowly release pressure on c clamps. I think even if they had let go there wasn’t enough tension to be harmful or dangerous. Also, my frame is separated from the body so it’s easier but I’m not sure what I was so afraid of. Ymmmv

To add to this - after removing the stock center bolt, install a much longer bolt or threaded rod with nuts on both sides. Then remove the clamps and unwind one of the nuts until all tension is off.

Re: 1939 ford deluxe spring removal
Jim, You've got me confused. You say you've seen discussions on spring removal, but you want specific instruction for a '39 Ford? A buggy spring is a buggy spring, they are all pretty much the same, instructions for removal would be the same.

Re: 1939 ford deluxe spring removal
If you don't have a spring spreader, rent a porta power and do it safely. Also a Fordbarn search on 'Spring spreader" will yield info to make your own AND GIVE YOU IDEAS..
