Fuel pump stand at angle, big breather pipe coming out going down LH side of motor come to mind.

Also, the oil fill tube is in the front of the manifold, right behind the road draft tube (oil breather). Also, surprisingly, there are less bolt holes for attaching the manifold to the block than the earlier ones. If you want to get into Mercury manifolds, there is also the provision for a larger 4-bolt carburetor and with some, an automatic choke.

I found out about the “less holes” thing when I tried to install an Offenhauser intake on an 8BA. The intake comes with the holes, block does not have. If I had caught this while I was machining it, I would have drilled and tapped the block. For no other reason than I had to cut off bolts and rtv them in place to fill the holes so it wouldn’t look odd. I put chrome acorn nuts on it, bad part is when I’m working on it I forget which are which an sometimes try to turn the rtv bolts.

Another big difference are the carburetor base angles; flat on the early (torque tube driveline) intakes, and angled on the (open driveline) '49-'53s. Some aftermarket intakes, like the Navarro tripple I'm using, have the flat carb bases but also have 8BA oil fill and road draft provisions.

That's interesting about the Navarro manifold. I have a Navarro "Universal" dual for an 8BA that I'll have to check.
