How well was he known in the 80's. It might be that he was just a beginner back then and now, almost 40 years later, he is well known.

So ... it makes a whole lotta sense to pump grease around the U joint?

Hands up all those, without the benefit of the internet, would think this is a great idea?

Yes, you need to pump grease in to lube the U joint and the ball pivot for the driveshaft.

Those who could bluff well years ago could become wealthy and famous.

Not too much has changed over the years.

Just simple facts of life to keep in mind.

The builder was White Post Restorations in Virginia. Looked them up on the internet, and they have been around for quite sometime. I also got to thinking since this was an expensive build, maybe the gentleman who had it done was running out of money and they did the best they could with the funds available. All and all, if these minor things are the worst I find, I feel I am still ahead of the game. It is a wonderful car, as I have had many 40s, 50s, and 60s cars in my life, and to date I can say this one has been the most enjoyable to work on, and to drive as a daily. Or maybe I am just getting a little long in the tooth, and this is where I need to be at in this stage of my life.

Hi Safe,

Your subject is most educational for first time buyers of Model A's.

Appears "For Sale Ads" seem to always read:

"Fully Restored". Next, comes the emphasized ridiculous high points, like ...... "New Dipstick", "New Fan Belt", and has "Moto-meter."

Never a bad idea for a new buyer to bring along an experienced Model A owner to observe the obvious Model A shortcomings and concerns.

Many of us are glad to hear you are enjoying both your normal exploration findings and figuring out your methods for corrections.

Just thanks for generating enjoyable Forum reading, adding a straightforward Model A buying education, and letting others know what to expect "after" buying a "Restored" Model A.

Thanks for the kind words, and thanks to all who have helped me with my new adventure. I am comfortable working on 40s, 50s, and 60s era cars as I have been for 40+ yrs. I hope to get as comfortable working on this Model A. And this seems to be the place to find and learn.

They use to have a spot at the NC Charlotte auto fair. At the end of the aisle we were on in the Orange field.

I'm curious what they did for "just north of 81,000 dollars".
Any list of the work done?

I have the print out sheets of the work done. 1 inch thick. It was a frame off nut and bolt 2 year restoration. And I also have the photos of the process. All was included when I purchased the car. Made for some interesting reading. If the car had been put up correctly it would have been show worthy. Some paint issues and bright work degrading. That is why I didn't have a problem turning into a daily driver.

Do you have it insured as a daily driver? Have you told your insurance company that you drive it back and forth to work every day and not just occasionally ? WAyne

I once saw a Restorer lament on how he was doing things differently now than years ago. Parts have been forced to improve. Paint has improved, working standards have improved.
What was acceptable years ago, has upgraded.
