Default 1929 Model a Speedo Drive Gear Removal

I am trying to remove the shaft on a 1929 model a speedometer diver gear. Can someone tell which end you drive the pin out from. I have tried both ends without any luck but I am reluctant to put a lot of force on it until I am sure it is going the correct way. I am converting a 1930 to except a 1929 speedometer cable.

I assume you are trying to go to a square male cable end from the flagged end . The gear is pressed on the shaft very tightly I very much doubt you could press it off without damage to the housing . Much easier to find a complete unit and swap it out . I often have seen them at swap meets . Make sure it is marked 9/34 for the 3.78 rear axle . Your cap should be marked on the curved "hump" . Brattons sell a "crossover" cable so you could use the present cap.

The shaft will actually come out quite easily from the cable side of the housing. Simply pry off the round cap from the threaded cable side (which is easy to remove.) Once that is out, push the shaft out the cable side from the opposite side and the gear should fall out of the housing.

That works just as described. Thanks for the tip.

This is something I tried but did not work . I prised out the tin end cover and with a punch tapped the shaft inwards to displace the steel plug at the other end . The plan being to drive out the shaft from that end . I found in my case the gear was solid on the shaft maybe corrosion so I went no further assuming that it was generally a tight fit . The ones I have in UK have a steel plug at the non drive end which I assume you have to centre punch to refit .
