1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
Hey Gang:
Was wondering if Ford made a dual wide-belt crankshaft pulley for a 1939-41 Ford motor (with the fan mount on the end of it). I'm pondering building another hopped-up flathead and will need this type of pulley. I have the water pumps, just not the crankshaft pulley. Anybody have one or know if they were made for any sort of truck application? Like this, but with two sheaves: Single-Sheave-1940.jpg Thanks! PS: I can always 'fabricate' one - using two of them, but would hate to ruin a good pulley just to rob from it. B&S Last edited by Bored&Stroked; 08-01-2016 at 10:50 AM. |

Yes; original application was bus.

Re: 1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
I have not seen the dual pulley with that front fan snout like a 1940. I do know about the two types of dual pulleys for buses. There was an early dual pulley and late dual pulley that went with the dual pulley water pumps for the 21 stud, front of head mounted, and with the water pumps like the 8BA style.
Buses probably didn't have the fan mounted on the crank like the car did. I dug through all the Antique Auto Supply inventory before the sold off, and saw all the examples of pulleys all NOS sitting on the shelf. I wish I had bought them! Early... Later: Dual pulley water pump early: Dual pulley water pump later:

Re: 1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
I've yet to see one either. I have a dual sheave pulley for a 39-53 crank, but it does not have the fan mount. I'm hoping there was such a beast . . . hopefully somebody either has a part number or even better - ONE for me to acquire.
Keep it coming boys . . . D |

I think I may have that dual sheave early crank pulley. I'll have a look tomorrow.

It seems like your question may have been misunderstood. I believe you are looking for a dual sheave crank pulley with the bolts holes to mount a fan such as the 1940 ford. It would be helpful to know what you are putting into what to make suggestions.

Ford did not have what you are looking for. Could maybe have been after market made for some blower in the early days but there was no Ford one.

Re: 1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
Ahh, I missed the original comment about the pulley having a extended flange for the crankshaft mounted fan. The pulleys I have do NOT have that feature.

Re: 1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
Ford did indeed make a double sheave pulley with a flange for mounting a fan. I know for a fact because I had one that I gave to a guy in USA that wanted it in order to fit a supercharger. Exactly like B&S wants... original application was for a bus.

Re: 1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
There were dual sheave pulleys with four bolt fan mounts for intake mount generators, and I have one of those, but I have never seen one for mounting on a crankshaft. Would be interesting to see a picture posted of the one Brian had, or one like it.

I have this one so apparently they did make them. Can't find any evidence of it being homemade.

THANKS to everybody for jumping on this thread and helping out. I figured that if such a beast was actually produced, that somebody on this site would have seen one, have one or know the part number. Now - if I can get my grubby mits on one! LOL

Re: 1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
Hey Ken in Alabama! That's great! Thanks for posting. I've never seen one before. Love learning new things about these old Fords!! Thumbs up.
old46 - I've got an Italmeccanica with a gilmer pulley on the front and would like to put it back to dual pulley. I believe Tom Senter had a 471 or 671 on that Ardun. What type of pulley do you have? dual pulley with a taper?

Did the 1 1/2 ton have the fan mounted on the crank like the car?

Re: 1940 Flathead - Dual Groove Crank Pulley???
I got this pulley and matching water pumps some 25 years ago when I bought a flathead supercharger. Pulley and pumps were in the box. Sold the supercharger long ago but kept the pulley and pumps. So with that said, the pulley may not be a Ford part but was made by the supercharger co for the conversion. Who knows?
