starter trouble
I was taking my 28 open cab pickup to a local hot rod upholsterer yesterday and I thought I had broken the bendix spring as running the starter made so much noise. About the time I was going to call a wrecker as I was in the median lane of a busy 4 lane city street, a guy walked over and helped me get it push started which it did on the second try. I made the trip without turning it off.
I got a quote of 5-6 hours @$55/hour to install the new Lebarron Bonney interior and re-install the top. This morning I removed the starter and low and behold the spring was not broken.. Both bolts were missing and the spring was loose. Wow, how lucky I was not to get stranded. I went to Harbor Freight and bought a flexible shaft with a magnet on the end and got both bolts out. In goes the modern bendix today. |

Re: starter trouble
Mr. Texas,
You may not be able to use the more modern bendix if you have the original 1/2 inch shaft starter in your vehicle. Good luck. Supergnat |
