I took it out and the car seems to not leak as much oil, it can breathe now. I don't have problems with blow by so I guess I don't need a bandaid fix like that.

I was going to say the Scotchbrite pads themselves, but while plastic and cheap, I think these are infused with abrasive.

I think putting ANYTHING in the oil filler Cap or TUBE is just PLAIN STUPID !!.. As Stated before, If need be to stop blow by on the fire wall etc. re-build the engine or put a sock over the cap & tube with a band of your choice to hold it in place.. When dirty enough, just put in in your wife`s wash !! Then Run !!
