Tow Insurance

Does anyone offer tow service for your A when your broken down in your garage? This is not about road service which I have with Triple A. And I'm not wanting to drive a block or two and then call in. Just someone to help me out if I screw up a repair and needed a shop.

You always have the option of paying a tow company in cash. They will do whatever you want.

AAA refused to tow my 1929 Model A mail truck because they said it was a "commercial vehicle". Had to call a tow company and pay cash. AAA would not reimburse, so be warned if your car is a tribute type or similar.

Get some old Model A guys to help you push it out of your garage onto the street and then call AAA to come and take it to a shop.

Haggerty is supposed to include some towing coverage, but I have not investigated what that might be

I had towing coverage with Hagerty (before the public sale of the company) and they towed my 1963 Pontiac to the transmission shop from my driveway for free.

I used AAA to tow my Model A to my friends garage to use his facilities to change the clutch. No problems, the only requirement is that the A had to be registered.

And Triple A told me that I had emergency road services, my garage didn't apply to an emergency. I'm just trying to find the tow-service that fits my situations. Our club mechanic moved out of South Florida to Arizona. Our next mechanic shop is West Palm Beach, a distance of 50 miles. This hobby is losing to many good people that I trust, am thinking of selling. Last month my clutch pin broke, it's a 35 cent replacement. This was not road service break-down, and
so at 82 years of age -- I know, it's my problem.

I have Hagerty insurance and it includes 100 miles of towing. They winched The Wretched Roadster onto a flatbed from my driveway and delivered it to the shop. Is there a Model A club anywhere near you? Maybe someone would be willing to help right in your garage.

Im using Good Sam at the moment. 54. a yr. they will tow you in. As suggested Hagerty
and others will do the same. You should call and ask the question, before you need the service, so that you know you are covered.
Tom Endy also has it right, tow rope to the street and off it goes!

Your on the right path by asking for help here, if we were closer I would load your car into my trailer. Contact clubs in your area and see if someone has a tow vehicle and trailer, drive around your area and look for parked trailers stop and ask if they could help you

I knew a guy that purchased an old truck. Never tried to start it, rolled it into the street and called AAA Road service. Tow truck arrived, driver looked at the truck and asked if the truck was just purchased and the new owner said "Yes, but the brakes are not working correctly. Driver loaded the truck and hauled it to the new owners house.

Without pointing fingers at anyone, it would seem like the agreement that someone had with their insurance company would be to tow their vehicle to their home or a repair shop in the event they were stranded during driving. What is the consensus on ethical/moral thoughts regarding altering the circumstances and then falsifying the information given to their insurance company to have the insurance company pay for something that was outside of your/their coverage agreement?

I just checked with Hagerty, who insures my Model A. If you are in the Drivers Club, 100 miles of towing is included with the policy.

I think Hagerty will tow no matter what. But I don't want to ever trust that theory. I keep it running the best I can, and if need be, take the 5# hammer to it to make it work hahaha

When my Roadster needed to be towed, my friend used his pickup truck and rented an open car trailer for the day. He got the trailer in the morning and drove 120 miles to get the car and drove back, unloaded and return'd the trailer to the car rental.The rental and fuel was inexpensive.

As mentioned by Big Hammer, check for car club members that have trailers that haul their cars to meets. Trailers sit unused most of the time and their owners would be glad to help if only asked. It doesn't have to be a Model A owner, as many makes of cars are towed.

I'd probably be sick if I added up how much I've paid my insurance company over my lifetime. I've never seen a dime of it back, no claims and no accidents (knock on wood). The least they could do is tow my car if I really needed it to be towed regardless of the circumstance.

They've never seemed to consider the morals/ethics of raising my rates despite my perfect driving record.
