Default 53 Ford Ranchwagon

Hood latch panel. To the left of the hood latch, looking from the front, there is an empty bolt hole on my panel. I don't know what went there. Looking at numerous pictures, it looks like there is a cap nut on whatever it is that goes there. I am installing this panel now. I am missing my safety latch, but it looks like that is just held on with two bolts, and not in that area. Any help in identifying what goes in that empty hole? Thanks. Flathead engine.

There is a rod that goes from that hole down through the splash pan to a bracket on the front of the cross member.

Thanks, Great. I guess it is just a support rod? Tommy

I found the support rod. I am having flashbacks. Is there a spring anywhere on this rod? I am trying to figure out what this rod does. It appears it would keep the two ends from expanding, but not from compressing. I am at a loss. Any inputs? Thanks..Tommy

Disregard, I see now that the jam nuts are used for adjustment of the rod. Thanks to all for the inputs. Back to work..

Thanks for the update, I was about to head to the garage to take pictures when I read your post.

How about some pictures of the Ranch Wagon?

The Ranchwagon is nothing to write home about. I got it from a junkyard for the flathead. Rebuilt the flathead, and decided to keep them together. I go back and forth out of the shop, but I don't know if it will ever go down the road. Just keep tinkering with it. It makes a good test bed for the flathead. Thanks for the input. Tommy
