Default Frame - Engine # Stamping

Has anyone ever had a frame without a stamped engine #? Of course assuming it’s a non pitted in the area of the stamp to be able to read. My frame shows no evidence of a number in that area.

I've seen a 28/29 frame that I could not locate the stamping. But I've also seen numbers that were really hard to find underneath all the grease, etc. Usually the stamping is immediately abaft the left engine mount.

I've had a couple like that.My former boss brought a bunch of frames down out of Canada in the mid 70's,not one had stampings. Most of those had paint on them too.In later years I read that Canadian frames were not stamped.I don't know if that's documented,or talk that grew into accepted fact.

Ford of Canada had a different format for their serial numbers than Ford US. As was already mentioned, they didn't stamp the frames. Being near the border, it's possible to have a Canadian made car. They used a lot of Robertson type screws as well. Those use a square drive type screw driver.

Not all frames had the engine/vehicle serial number stamped on them. See Vince Falter's webpage at link below:

Thank You for your replies. My assumption was all original frames should have the engine number stamp which I can see now is not the case.

A friend of mine has a Victoria and there is no number on the frame. The car is from Sothern California, and the frame was dirty but no rust. We really looked but there are no numbers on the frame.

None of the RHD chassis, around thirty, that dad picked up in the sixties were stamped.

I thought that my frame had no number, but after complete removal of all the frame welting and careful search, I found the number just in front of the rear running board bracket! I figure that the guy stamping frame numbers was distracted and had to catch up to the chassis. This 1930 town sedan was assembled in Dallas.

My ‘28 Canadian built roadster was produced first month of Canadian production. Engine block and frame are BOTH stamped CA1792.

My 31 Canadian built std. roadster was completely disassembled and the frame completely cleaned. I looked everywhere before I painted the frame and there was no stamping on the frame. The drivers door sill (subframe) has the body number stamped on it. Starts with a T indicating the body was built at the Toronto plant.
