K & S Gauges
A recurring subject is K & S (original Ford) gauges and issues on how they work and how to test and/or repair them. I put together a PDF file from past threads on the subject. Hope the contributors don't object to having their information included. These include Tubman, 19Forty & Deucemac among others.

I think it's a real good idea to do this. You can bet this one will get printed out and put in he proper place in my file cabinet.

Re: K & S Gauges
JSerry: Thanks for getting all the info together in one place and explaining it.
Do you think it would be possible to replace that "second wound resistor " with a modern 8-9 ohm resistor and still have the gauge read accurately? If so, which of the resistors shown in link below do you think could be used? https://www.radioshack.com/pages/sea...ohm%20resistor I am not good with electronics so need all help I can get. |

That is a nice piece of work. As others have said " I will keep it with my flat head doc's, and my electrical stuff. Bruce

Re: K & S Gauges
Mr. Seery: Because it dissipates heat, does that mean that the 8 ohm resistor would have to have a high wattage rating, if so what rating/ I found some on ebay that are 8 ohms with a 10 watt rating.
I was also thinking that if a larger size resistor with higher wattage is needed it could be mounted on the outside of the fuel tank sending unit with insulated wires running to the connections inside the gas tank sending unit. I know Watts = V x A. What amperage is used to operate a 6V Ford fuel gauge? Last edited by 19Fordy; 04-25-2018 at 11:20 AM. |
