Default What kind of car do I have?

Sorry for my ignorance but what exactly do I have? It's a 1930 four door Murray body. Standard, Deluxe, Town Sedan? I have the book "The Ford Model A as Henry Built It" but I am still confused. The book says there were 9 1930-31 body styles that had four doors. Can you tell from the avatar or do I need to post a new pic?

The town sedan had three windows per side like your avatar. The town sedan also should have rear arm rests, usually a center rear fold down arm rest also. If it is a town sedan , there should be an oval dome light with a fancy bezel over the back window. The garnish moldings and upper dash should be wood grain finish. The interior is usually mohair and carpeted floors. the standard fordor didn't come with any of these extras.. From what I can see, its probably a town sedan.

Purdy nailed it. Many standards have been restored as town sedans. Its easy to put on some cowl lights, but the interior details are more difficult. If all the interior details are not there, suspect its a conversion. The Restoration Guide and Judging Standards will have every detail you need.

I have rear arm rest... not sure about the center rest. There is a dome light but it is more in the center. The garnish moldings are wood grain. It has carpet and mohair.
Also has a stainless shifter.

I have a '30 Standard Briggs Fordor. The standards could also have 3 windows down the side. I think your best indicator, which sometimes gets overlooked in a conversion from a standard, is the position of the light, and as "Purdy" stated, the bezel around it. My light is positioned (centered) just in front of the rear door hinge post and it has its own switch, not a switch on the main door post. Also, look for the bezel, the standard is quite plain. To possibly confuse you more, many model A's had a mix of parts from other or earlier models, due to Ford's penny-pinching. Mine had deluxe handles for example and '29 door sill plates.

Then you have a converted Standard. (Mutt)

The center dome light is the give away.

Very interesting! Where is the switch for the dome light supposed to be?

On the post behind the front passenger on the town sedan.

I don't remember seeing a switch there. There isn't one on the light either. I may go get the car at lunch. It's pretty nice out today I should have drove it anyway.

I was confused at first with mine (standard), but soon realized that the switch in the dome light had lost its toggle. Again, I would say look at the bezel. It may have a slot that the toggle switch should come through, into the cabin of the car. The toggle is about 1" long.

Yeah I looked again and there is a toggle on it. The light is centered about right over the front seat back. Also I was wrong about the arm rests. I have no rear arm rests or a center arm rest. (I haven't owned it too long)

You have the standard Fordor.
Are the tops of the window openings arched (Murray), or straight (Briggs)?

Nothing ignorant about this question. You did research, used an appropriate resource, and needed help interpreting the results. Your question led to an informative thread where others may learn from.

Thank you for asking it.
