Back in 2003 "Pilot" took our 32 to Pebble Beach and back and did an excellent job....With that said "Pilot" was sold and I think whoever bought them sold out again SO I can't tell you who they are now. Given the amount of time and the only reason we didn't use Reliable was Pilot had a better pick up time, for us, than Reliable did. Price wise they were very close in price. SO had we not gone with Pilot, "Reliable" was our next Go-To move. You "may" check with "Truly Vintage" here on the "Barn" and see what his schedule is looking like, a lot of good recommendations here on the Barn for him!!!

I have used Reliable several times for cross country hauls with excellent results.

I'd shipped three cars with them (at one time) and was terribly disappointed. In fact, angry may be a better description of how I felt.
Truck showed up and the elevator didn't work. Driver had no clue how to repair. So, guess who fixed it?
Then when the cars were returned, the driver, a very "large (read: OBESE)" man worked around the cars to remove them from the trailer. He had his sweaty arms and hands all over the cars and I'd witnessed one time when he swung the door open to far and tapped the inner trailer wall.
Far from professional, when I'd asked that he be a lot more careful, he had told me they were "just Fords".
Yes, "only Fords" but no doubt more value than he earned in two, maybe three years.

This was the one and only time I'd strayed from Passport. Never again after that.

My Brother shipped a car and a truck via Intercity in November 2020 from Buffalo to Phoenix and he had to wait a long time for a pickup - like two months or more. He was in no hurry when he signed up but it took a long time to get a truck there and it finally arrived just before it started snowing. Another day or two and it would have been messy loading the truck. One of the vehicles that was normally never stored outside had to sit outside for those couple of months waiting for the truck to get there. I used them about 6 years ago and had no issues.

AGAIN its been several years back BUT I had a friend sell an early 90's Corvette GS and the buyer contracted with "Exotic Car Transport". Even though the buyer was the one who contracted and paid for the delivery, My friend was very upset with how they handled the car (like Kube's experience). SO EX NA on Exotic Car Transport!!!

When you see them load and unload the car this may not be the only time it goes in and out of the trailer. From my experience, it's not uncommon for them to have to load and unload other cars while making deliveries, depending on their logistics. When Intercity unloaded my car, they had to move two other ones out of the trailer and back in to get to mine. Those type of moves will occur when no one associated with those cars is present or watching.

I just got off the phone with the OP.
The car he bought is 17 feet long.
The trip itself is 2200 miles.

No one I know who provides direct enclosed
vehicle transport from pick up to drop off
will transport for his budget.

That - is what I do - since 2006.
On Ford Barn since 2010.

Year round as safe traveling allows.

None of the major carriers offer that.

I winch all vehicles on & off my custom
designed enclosed car hauler trailer.

None of the major carriers offer that.

I just picked up this 1969 SS Convertible Camaro
outside of Conroe Texas and am on my way to deliver
it to a regular customer in Phoenix.

I have an empty trailer available to Seattle, Washington
routing thru California & Oregon if someone needs vehicle transport.

That is where damage usually occurs.
During transfer & storage - when no one
is watching.

Unless your vehicle is going directly to an auction
or a car show from the same pick up location to
the same drop off location as part of a larger load
it is going to be unloaded - transferred to another
trailer or to an outside yard - loaded back up into
another trailer ….

It is the logistics of all transport - you are a package
in the mail - read the fine print in your agreement …

“ Normal & Customary Acceptable Damage “ includes
but is not limited to - mechanical damage - glass damage -
body damage - paint damage - interior damage.

You can contract for enclosed transport but the carrier reserves the right
to provide all or part of the transport on an open trailer.

if you have an auto that is worth a lot of money or you have the means to spend any amount of money then truly vintage will be your man but if you are trying to move a relatively inexpensive vehicle then he is not the man. I just got off the phone with him so I guess I am the OP he has mentioned and he is the arrogant person that I talked to. Enought said

Transporting classic cars is expensive. The first time I checked prices (years ago), I was amazed how spendy it was. Since I already had a pickup, I went out and bought a 7000 lb Featherlite and never looked back.

I called you after our message exchange.
I never gave you a price to transport your vehicle.
You told me you had quotes as low as $1000.
I am not a sweet talking auto transport broker.
This is my 16th year of being on the road.

My rate per mile depends on the vehicle length
along with the pick up & drop off locations.

It is the same for Project and Concourse vehicles.

Google “ Model T Transport “.
See what comes up first.

I have personally transported over 400 Model T’s
including at least 13 to The MTFCA Museum
in Richmond, Indiana.

Model T Folks are pretty thrifty.

I transport vehicles for people who want them to arrive
in the same condition they left in.

If you buy a vehicle at a distance the best thing for the vehicle and for your wallet is for you to go get it yourself by flying out or driving out and trailering it or driving the vehicle home yourself.

Put your money in your vehicle and not in someone else’s wallet.

If that isn’t possible the best thing to do is to hire someone that you can speak to directly who is driving the truck pulling the trailer with your vehicle in it or on it.

First...Why would you buy a car from that sort of distance AND not have either 1) prearranged transportation OR 2) Not at least have an idea of the cost? OR try and negotiate a cost AFTER the fact?

Second....it's been since 2003 since we used a "commercial" shipper. It was like $1800 to $2000 back then to ship from Fla to CA and Ca back to Fla back then, I can't imagine, with fuel cost today, it being at minimum $1500 or MORE one way!!

Third...hauling your own vehicle ALSO has its RISK....As we were hauling our 32 back out to California in 2007. We hit a winter storm in New Mexico and into Arizona. AS we entered the outskirts of Tucson we hit black ice on an overpass and lost control of our truck and trailer and spun 180 degree's on I-10. Getting OFF of the highway we where T-Boned and totaled our truck...STUCK in Tucson for 2 days!! SO.....Think about everything BEFORE you cast any "stones"!!!

Based on the 2200 miles, that's approx $750 just in fuel cost ONE WAY with our truck and trailer. NO hotel stays, No food cost. PLUS add the trip out IF you are hauling it yourself...SO That's almost $ 1500 JUST in fuel cost alone!!

THERE are LOTS of factors to consider AND when you do, prices tend to have a whole different look to it!!

I'm looking at a car that would involve a cross country move. A project, no engine or trans. Shipping is what makes it a deal-breaker. Love to give Jim a shot at it, but I don't see it happening. And, as already posted, if I only count the fuel, two ways cross country is quite pricey.
