Default 36 coupe rear fender question

i have a 36 coupe i am working on, have a rear fender that has been "fixed" in the past and they basically ruined it. I know sedan fenders are easier to find, my mounting areas on the fender i have are fine--can i "convert" a sedan fender to fit my coupe? Or does someone out there have a decent passenger side fender for sale? thanks tom

Never done it myself, but several people have said that all you need to do is to weld about a 3/4" wide strip of sheet metal to the inner edge of the fender where it bolts to the body, fill the old holes and drill new ones.

I bought fender repair panels (EMS?)and had my metal guy who is quite the skilled craftsman replace the rusted out parts where the fender meets the running board. He did have to section the patch as it didn't just flop into place, but it looks and acts just as it should.

There is no simple modification. The sedan fender in addition to being narrower side to side (easy) is an inch or two taller than the coupe fender. This means the bottom edge and wheel opening needs to be moved up from 0 at the running board to the 1-2" at the back. Then the curves of the fender will have changed and have to be worked out. Unless you are or have a true expert do the work you will have succeeded in destroying an original piece of iron. The same expert would likely be able to either save your original or create a new one from flat metal. IMHO.

Tom, As I understand it, 36 Ford coupe rear fenders are really rare. Thought about fiberglass?

Try some of the resellers such as All Ford Parts in Campbell or the Early Ford store. And with the release of the Drake fenders, I've seen a lot more originals for sale and at relatively decent prices, at least compared to what they brought 5-10 years ago.
