1917 couplet
I have a rare 1917 couplet that I am told is one of few survivors.Tring to get idea if there are any more around. I am about 50% thru total ground up show restoration. The body is all done and ready for final paint and interior. Now time to go thru chassie. If anyone has one please let me know or if you know of any non barn owners I would still like to try and compile list of known cars.
Thanks Kevin |

Re: 1917 couplet
Take some pictures. The couplet is one of the best looking cars Ford made.
I have a 1919 coupe body that just got rewooded, it looks good, but the couplet looks better. |

Re: 1917 couplet
If you can find march- april 1988 #234 Model T Times. It has the article on Dave Simmering's 1917 ford coupelet. Photos on cover and story on car. With lots of photos.
I belonged to the same T club as Dave. To me this car is the best T ever built. This car is so cool. You can remove the center post so its like a hard top. |

Re: 1917 couplet
There is also a feature story. Issue #209 page 3. But I do not have that issue.I got info. from the index. It did not give the year of that issue. But I think it would be 1983. You can get back issues from The Model T Ford Club international P.O. Box 438315 Chicago. IL 60643-8315
I hope this will help you. |

Re: 1917 couplet
I bought a pile of Couplet parts at Hershey many years ago. It had the rolled over roof panels, not the flat ones seen in most photos. Don't know if it ever progressed from the condition I sold it in. Bob

Re: 1917 couplet
If a roster of 1917 Coupelets is in the works, add mine. Its a 1917 hardtop removable pillar type, original body, with the chassis being restored now. Its just like the body shown on pp 248-251 of McCalley's book, except that mine has original leatherette upholstry. Engine is 2014118, body number 43193.

Re: 1917 couplet
Just so we're all on the same page did Ford change the discription of "Coupelet" at some point in time? The body style came out in 1915 and the top did fold down as did the Cabrolet in 1929. There was what I consider a "Coupe" body in 1917 with a fixed top and removable door post that made the body a 5 or 3 window Coupe style body. The remains I had many years ago had a fixed top and the removable pillar. Bob

Re: 1917 couplet
The remains I had were really rough, I'm a dreamer, but I saw the reality it that one and passed it along. I have seen Kevins T and that one is a winner, can't wait to see it finished. Bob

Re: 1917 couplet
Just looked at this post and realized I had some activity about my inquiry.I too am having issues getting photos uploaded. The 1915 shown has a fold down top. My car has fixed top and the center post is removable. I belive this only happen in 1917-- could be wrong? I will try agin today to get pics uploaded.I will also see what I can find in back issues listed.
Thanks again for all the intrest. Kevin |

Re: 1917 couplet
Are you sure that's a 1916? It has the brass headlight rims, which ended in June, 1915, before the 1916 model year began (August).

Re: 1917 couplet
Thats close to Realsteel 1934. But with no brass,a hard top with a cover. And a side back window with a post that can be removed. So it looks like a hard top.
I have tried to post photos. But it will not take them. |

Re: 1917 couplet
Yes this photo is close but not the same body as my 1917.My car has a side window behind door so when the removable post is taken out you have large side opening. The front cowl area is the same.I was told by friend in hobby that Harrah Auto colection had one and that there is less than hand full known of my body style. That is why I first posted this so we can learn more. I too have not been able to upload photos. If you wish to see mine just email me and I will send them along.Who knows maybe someone else can get mine up on this post.
Thanks Kevin |

Re: 1917 couplet
There is quite a debate about my coupelet. Some say it's a 15, some say it's a 16. The engine was born in November of 1915 which from my research makes it a 1916 (model year) Ford model t coupelet. Now to fuel the 15 people my grandfather titled it as a 1915 model t coupelet. He did not have access to google as I do.
You can't see from the photo but my coupelet does have the opera windows. Your coupelet is the same for mine except for the fenders, top and interior appointments. There is a guy in the Ventura CA model t club who has a 17 also. His is the hardtop like yours. |

Re: 1917 couplet
Kevin, I just checked my old Harrah collection list, they only had one Couplet, a 1915 with a ROOF Overhead conversion. Bob

Re: 1917 couplet
It seems so long ago that I did that article for the Model T Times. I knew of 5 other couplets like mine. A friend in California, One in a museum in Minden Nebraska, Ours, One I saw on E-Bay a few years ago and one in Canada that was under restoration. Realsteel's would make 6 unless his is the one on E- Bay.

Re: 1917 couplet
Yes mine is the one that was advertised on ebay back in 08 .I bought it from Robert Woodburn out in Montana and had it shipped back east so I think the count is at 5 not 6

Re: 1917 couplet
Kevin, The one mentioned on post #9 was not included. I would love to see a picture. He provided a body number. Ours is 29942, Warps pioneer village in Nebraska is 28850 and the one in California is 27722. These are the first hardtop coupes manufactured by Ford since the 200 or so built in 9,10, and 11.

Re: 1917 couplet
There is presently (Dec 16, 2013) on on eBay. Item: 161172224781. This is the type with the rounded edges at the top - pretty rare. Mine is the removable pillar type, but has the squared edges at the top, like the later coupes (till 1923).

Here's a photo of a pillerless coupelet I purchased on eBay. Not a great photo, but then these aren't that common. Any other period photos out there?
