Yes, especially if the noise changes a little when pushing the clutch pedal in and out.
To me, that would indicate a throw out bearing problem. Sal |

Re: '57 F-100 with 303 5.0 Liter
I have always been told that the bearing shouldn't ride against the pressure plate fingers when not depressed. If it has the proper clearance, it shouldn't squeal with the clutch pedal up even if it is bad. If it DOESN'T have the proper clearance and is riding the pressure plate fingers all the time, it could cause the noise if bad. If it is riding the fingers all the time, it is probably why it is squealing.

I've always had some amount of noise on everything that had a clutch but never had one squeal. Some had more other's had less.

The answer should be yes, it depends on the pedal to clutch hardware in the truck.
If it's all mechanical there's usually a threaded rod in the linkage with an adjustment nut. If it's hydraulic, I've not looked at one. |

If it makes noticeable noise, it is too late for an adjustment. Plan on a time to replace it. I have found on some swaps, the linkage isn't perfect. See if you can get at the bottom of the clutch area, adjust it to .030 to .060 clearance while the clutch pedal is held down. Then see how the free play feels and that is the new adjustment place.

The brand new Zoom TO bearing in my car was noisy the first time I had the car up over 55. It quieted down soon after. But they should be quiet, maybe a whir when the clutch pedal is down.

Mine's a hydraulic clutch, so I would assume it's not adjustable. I plan on pulling it out next Summer. Too cold now to be crawling around the ground.
Thx !! |

Re: '57 F-100 with 303 5.0 Liter
I would think there should be some sort of adjustment somewhere. To keep pressure off the throw-out bearing when the clutch isn't being used, so it doesn't wear out prematurely and squeak like hell.

OH! Some TO BRNGS have a grease fitting. If none and have to replace, ask for one.

Re: '57 F-100 with 303 5.0 Liter
I crawled under the truck and yes there is a threaded shaft that can be adjusted. I just couldn't get the truck high enough to get me and the tools I needed to make the adjustment done. Will try a different method.
Great Pumpkin that is very interesting for sure. Thx Guys |
