Tire Mounting - Plastic Bag Method Article
I remember seeing an article that was posted on the old fordbarn with the instructions for using the plastic bag method for tire mounting. Has anybody got a copy they could post or send me please. Thanks Mike

Re: Tire Mounting - Plastic Bag Method Article
Here's a video of plastic bag tire mounting. Not much to it. It works well, however I don't recall having that much trouble removing the bag when done.

If you can't figure out how to swing a rubber tire hammer over a tire and wheel on a shipping blanket go for it.

Re: Tire Mounting - Plastic Bag Method Article
It worked great! I did four tires in about an hour. Warmed the tires up in the sun. Put talcum powder on both the inside of the tire and on the tube. I stood on the edge of the tire to work it over the rim along with pushing down with my hands. The bag came out easily. Thanks for your help!

I used this method with the wheels on the car and it worked great with removing and installing the new ones.

Re: Tire Mounting - Plastic Bag Method Article
You figure out how to do it pretty quick.
Just use 2 plastic bags. First coat the inside of the tire with corn starch. You need to prevent the tube from sticking to the tire. This could cause a hole. Do not forget the rim strip too. Put the bags on and do the first bead. I put a blanket down and worked from the back side of the wheel. The first bead goes on easy. Put some air in the tube and stuff it neatly in the tire. Now start working the bead on to the rim. I was using my knees and weight to work the bead past the half way point. With sneakers on, I stood on the tire and worked the rest of the bead with my toes. When filling with air watch the bead for even seating. It is possible for the bead to go on wrong and pop off the rim. Always do a basic check for balance. Move the tire round the rim to minimize the imbalance. Some do well and others are just out. Also spin and watch the tread that is it reasonably round. I was doing Goodyear tires and they were very round. Some tires may give you an built in pot hole. |
