Default Carburetor "Leak"

About a year and a half ago, I installed a new Dennis Carpenter carburetor on my 1940 Ford passenger car with a stock 85 HP engine. At the same time I also installed a Bob Drake plastic spacer between the carb and the intake manifold. The carb has worked quite well but has recently started to intermittently leak gas from what appears to be at the accelerator rod on the right side of the carb. This does not occur during operation, but when the engine is turned off (not always). I measured fuel pressure to the carb from the fuel pump (mechanical), and it is 3 1/4 lb. Any experience or thoughts???

Well, the fuel pressure is to high for most carburetors, not sure about Dennis Carpenter carburetors. Should be more in the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 psi range.

3-1/2 lbs is fine. That isn't the problem. It must have worked with that fuel pump for 18 months.....

I, too, think it's the fuel pressure. 2.5# max

Probably worked OK for 18 months because the carb was new; a little wear, and ......

Call Carpenter and speak with a tech about the recommended pressure for one of their carbs. 3.5 seems high.
