Default 1955 Ford Sunliner

Can someone tell me why my generator light stays on after engine is running. I have checked the wireing and it seems to be correct. The engine and transmission were rebuilt and the mechanic who did the work put it back together. He is not familiar with Y Block V8's, but did ok.

Also, has anyone had experience with 6v to 12v conversion? What about an alternator vs. the generator? I understand that their is a kit you can purchase to convert that has all parts necessary, including lights, battery starter, etc.

Would appreciate all the help you guys can give me.

Thanks,

Joe

Your light will stay on if the generator is not putting out juice OR if you did not polarized your generator after having the battery disconnected OR your regulator might be sticking. As to 12v conversion : Have generator rewired for 12v or get one from later model 12v syatem. Change bulbs, coil and points to 12 volt. Wiring should be fine.Leave your starter 6v it will start faster. Hope this helps....
