1935 Ford fuel pump
Hello all, have a 35 Ford stock , all original pickup. Not worried about being totally stock. Thoughts on best place to purchase a fuel pump and maybe changing to one with a glass bowl. thanks.

Airtex is the brand pretty much everyone sells NEW.. We sell them, as well as rebuilt originals for the same price.

Re: 1935 Ford fuel pump
I like using the glass bowl FP on my '35 because I like to be able to see the gas coming into the bowl, and also the fact that I can use a filter in the bowl. I could care less about being totally original. I also like to rebuild my own pumps using alcohol resistant components, and internal spring pressure that produce no more that 2-1/2 psi fuel pressure to the carburetor(s). Have been using the same fuel pump that I rebuilt 13 yrs, and 35k miles ago.

Re: 1935 Ford fuel pump
Should you decide on a glass-bowl pump, be sure to use a cork gasket on the glass bowl as opposed to a neoprene gasket....

Re: 1935 Ford fuel pump
I'll second the motion on a cork gasket. It seems counter-intuitive to me, but they just work better.

Re: 1935 Ford fuel pump
Charlie just did two for me. Quick turn around and great price.
Does anyone have a part number for a filter that fits in that bowl? I've seem some small Mann filters for lawnmowers (not the inline type), so I'd assume they'd work too. |

Re: 1935 Ford fuel pump
At the car museum that I assist on repairs I was asked recently to look at a Chrysler that wouldn't start I found the cork gasket on the glass bowl have shrunk and was sucking air ,I believe A/C pumps in the day had a
neoprem or some type of rubber if you could get one of these you would be better of but most of us have no choice . Last edited by FlatheadTed; 03-13-2020 at 12:44 PM. |
